Breastfeeding is an act of supreme love

With an exchange between pregnant women, teachers, students of Medical Sciences, nursing mothers and donors, the World Breastfeeding Week began on Saturday in this city, which will last until August 7.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This was confirmed in its institutional profile on social media by the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, pointing out that it was in the Clodomira Acosta Ferrales maternal home, belonging to the Health area of the Aquiles Espinosa polyclinic, where the schedule of activities began to develop under the motto "Support breastfeeding, for a healthy planet".

Breastfeeding offers all infants the best start to life, as it provides health, nutritional and emotional benefits, both for them and for mothers; a natural process that is not always easy and in which support is needed to keep it exclusive for up to six months.

It is specified that the educational actions during the week will be aimed at knowing the impact of infant feeding on the environment, climate change and the urgent need to protect, promote and support this natural and ecological act.

Family medical offices, polyclinics, maternity homes and hospital institutions will be the main stages of the health promotion actions through talks, multidisciplinary meetings and community interventions.

Breast milk is the ideal and most complete food for the newborn, hence the World Health Organization recommends feeding the baby exclusively with this product until six months, and then maintains lactation accompanied by complementary foods until two years or more.
