Act for International Nurses Day held in Las Tunas

Smiles, commitment, and emotions flooded the theater of the University of Medical Sciences during the celebration of International Nursing Day, an opportunity to honor those who practice the beautiful art of healing in healthcare centers.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the act, the performance of 98 nurses was recognized, for their dedication and consecration. The most outstanding teachers and retirees who have dedicated their best years to caring for patients and feeling the pain of others as their own also received applause.

The Provincial Health Directorate conferred the Manuel (Piti) Fajardo Medal, awarded by the Health Workers' Union, to nine professionals for the merits achieved during 25 or more years of uninterrupted work in the sector.

The winners of the My Experiences in the Pandemic contest were awarded. The first place went to Gilda Reyes Peña, the second was occupied by Deysi Creso Martínez, and the third was for Yusmila Pérez Gamboa.

The Provincial Nursing Section decided to recognize Dr. Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, Provincial Director of Health, with the Enfermera Principal Condition (Main Nurse), for her excellent management and meritorious work. Likewise, a group of male and female nurses, who were integral during the period, received the praise of their colleagues.

Since last month, a day has been held in Las Tunas in tribute to these professionals, who -inside and outside the country- overcome physical and psychological exhaustion to save lives and offer words of encouragement amid care dynamics. They are worthy representatives of a profession that demands absolute dedication and a deep love for human beings.
