"Protect the environment. A reason to quit smoking”

Every May 31st, promulgated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as World No Tobacco Day since 1987, actions are promoted to keep adolescents, young people, and adults away from smoking, which harms addicts and the so-called "passive smokers.”

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Tobacco and cigarettes contain 50 percent carcinogenic chemical substances, which favor the appearance of cardiovascular diseases and tumors in the mouth, skin, throat, and lungs.

The prolonged consumption of these compounds can trigger pathologies such as influenza, pneumonia, diabetes mellitus, cirrhosis, peptic ulcer disease, chronic kidney disease, and cervical cancer, and also puts children at risk of suffering from chronic, otitis media, bronchitis, asthma, and cough.

The National Program for the Prevention and Fight against Smoking works in the country, and not only includes smoking cessation, but also the declaration of smoke-free departments and institutions.

Smoking cessation clinics work in the health areas of Las Tunas and those who wish to join can ask in their medical offices for an appointment at the corresponding polyclinic.

This Day establishes a call to annihilate this scourge, which compromises the sustainable development of all countries. "Protect the environment. A reason to quit smoking” is the slogan of the campaign in Cuba for 2022.
