Mártires de Barbados Memorial Museum, in Las Tunas

The Barbados Martyrs Memorial Museum is sponsoring a commemorative event in honor of the 73 victims of the Barbados Crime, which occurred on October 6, 1976.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The tribute program began on Monday with a lecture by researcher Osvaldo Morfa Lima on the historical evolution of the confrontation with the imperialist aggressions against Cuba and its impact on this eastern territory. The meeting was held at the Carlos Leyva School of Sports Initiation, which bears the name of the young fencer who, together with his companions, crew, and other passengers, lost his life near the coast of Barbados, as a result of the perfidious blasting of the CU-455 aircraft of Cubana de Aviación airline.

Until October 6, several activities of remembrance are held such as book presentations, exhibitions, and a symposium; besides the usual pilgrimage to the Vicente García Cemetery and the commemorative act.

The Barbados Crime is one of the most atrocious terrorist acts committed against Cuba. On October 6, 1976, not only the lives and dreams of 57 Cubans were cut short, but the hearts of an entire people were oppressed and mourned.
