Jobabo hosts main event for the Cuban Peasant Day

Today, the 30 de Diciembre Revolution Plaza, in the municipality of Jobabo, will host the National Act for the Cuban Peasant Day, an event that the people of Las Tunas won in a good fight and will celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the creation of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The decision of the ANAP National Committee to recognize this eastern province with the celebration responds to the systematic work during the last year in agricultural production and credit and services cooperatives, and various aspects, such as the incorporation of women, and the performance of the joint brigades with the Federation of Cuban Women.

Specifically, the application of agroecological techniques stands out for the benefit of the soil and production, and the control of pests and diseases in crops, besides the perennial adaptation to drought conditions.

The support for different works of social use in the settlements of the eight municipalities, the rescue of José Martí squares and historical sites, the identification of the units through billboards, and the vocational training of the new generations also highlight.

The province is recognized, as well, for its contribution to food production -nearly 80 percent is in the hands of the cooperative and peasant sectors-, above all, the planting of tobacco, cane, grains, and root vegetables, besides raising cattle, pig, and sheep-goats, mainly.

The Act will be an incentive to promote various actions such as the surveillance and prevention of criminal acts, the promotion of livestock modules in areas of collective use, the self-production of seeds, and the permanence of producers and their families in rural areas.

This celebration has been preceded by the delivery of medals and cultural activities.
