At the proposal of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba awarded the Romárico Cordero Medal to two outstanding peasants from Las Tunas, for their relevant results during more than 20 years of uninterrupted labor in the sector.

The recognition was deserved by Rosaida Cardoso Toranzo, associated with the Sabino Pupo agricultural production cooperative (CPA), from Cerro de Caisimú, in Manatí, who has dedicated almost 40 years of her life to planting sugarcane and various crops, raising cattle, and other tasks in which their support has been needed.

Omelio Castellanos Carmona was also decorated. He is the president of the Sabino Pupo credit and services cooperative, in the Pedernales area, in the municipality of “Amancio;” an entity that promotes livestock development and the well-being of the community, as well.

During the solemn ceremony, which took place in the Major General Vicente García Revolution Plaza, the Antero Regalado Distinction was delivered to six men and women who have exceptionally fulfilled the tasks assigned by the organization, in its functioning or food production.

Other 16 ANAP members were awarded the José Ramírez Cruz Special Seal, one of the most important recognition because the outstanding leader contributed to the organization of the Armed Peasant Congress and the defense of the rights of residents in rural areas.

The member of the Council of State and president of the organization, Rafael Santiesteban Pozo; Manuel Pérez Gallego, a member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and its first secretary in the province; and the governor and deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power, Jaime Chiang Vega attended the imposition of decorations.

A few days ago, in Havana, Reydenis González Céspedes, the president of the Calixto Sarduy Arcia agricultural production cooperative, in Becerra, in the municipality of Las Tunas, received the Honorary Title of Labor Hero of the cooperative and peasant sector.
