With the joy of knowing that they are national vanguards, a group of women from Las Tunas was recognized this Tuesday for their valuable work in favor of the homeland and the work of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC by its acronym in Spanish).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Personal efforts in pursuit of the common good, sacrifices, decades of dedication to the formation of the younger generations, and work in the communities have in common those honored with the 23 de Agosto Distinction, a tribute to virtue and creative endeavor.

Iliana Toirac Ruiz, director of the local Tunas Visión television channel, emphasized that 63 years later, Cuban women continue to be at the forefront of national development. In this regard, she mentioned the recent meetings of the federates with President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the rights endorsed in the Family Code, the National Program for the Advancement of Women (PAM in Spanish), and the Observatory on Gender Equality, aimed at compiling, processing, and visualizing indicators, from a gender and rights perspective.

"We have more than fulfilled the request made by the Commander-in-Chief when he called on Cuban women to work, to organize themselves, and to defend the place they have won in the history of the homeland. And we will continue to do so for the sake of a country that will always be moved by the soul and the good work of Cuban women," she said.

Proud and happy were the retired educator Sandra Cruzata Batista and the producer of the CCS Sabino Pupo Mileydi Crespo Pérez, who claimed their commitment to the socio-economic development of their districts, Jesús Menéndez and Amancio, respectively.

"I feel very proud and I call on the federates to be an active part of the tasks of the community", declared the first of them; meanwhile, the also known as "Queen of the Flowers" expressed her satisfaction of "sowing the land and contributing to the feeding of the people.”

For maintaining a permanent link with the organization's membership, the journalist Gianni López Brito also deserved the 23 de Agosto Distinction. His career as a reporter and filmmaker has reflected the dimension of the work of the women from Las Tunas in everyday life, which constitutes a valuable contribution to the dissemination of their achievements, rights, and protagonist in various fields.

In the Major General Vicente García Revolution Plaza, on the 63rd anniversary of the organization, the leaders were recognized for their uninterrupted work for 5 and 10 years.

In the same way, the territories of Manatí, Jesús Menéndez, Majibacoa, Jobabo, Amancio, and Colombia were distinguished for their results in the national emulation; municipalities in which there is still much to be done, but where the participation of women in all spheres of society is being defended.

This coming 23 August, this social, revolutionary, and organized force will celebrate its anniversary, a new lease of life to continue strengthening the work of the FMC, which was born committed to the Revolution, and also the legacy of Vilma Espín, its founder and inspiration.
