Free sales of cigars increases in Las Tunas

Made up of two workshops specialized in the production and commercialization of cigars, the Enrique Casals basic business unit (UEB in Spanish, in Las Tunas, has manufactured more than four million units to date, which guarantees the satisfaction of national and international commitments, as well as local sales, based on new strategies in fixed and mobile outlets.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The figures, which represent 68 percent of the total forecasted for this year, show a solid structure in terms of both human and logistical resources, with a workforce of close to 300 workers between the two units.

Arturo Camejo López, director of the UEB belonging to the Tobacco Collection, Processing, and Twisting Company, said exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that this alternative was taken in response to the demands of the population, which is why a sales area was created in the factory gates, located in the center of the city, as well as the circulation of a salesman in different communities.

From June to the end of August, these actions allowed the company to obtain some 670,000 pesos, which shows the feasibility of maintaining the service and the need to continue to insert the entity in the dynamism required by the local economy, said the director.

We have also incorporated into the neighborhood thanks to the willingness of the "Estampas Tuneras" Comparsa, known as Zabala, which guarantees us to sell cigars once a month from the company's headquarters, and also allows us to be part of the celebrations of the popular and traditional culture, of which Cuban tobacco is an inescapable part, added Camejo López.

The workshop located at Kilometer 5 of the road that links the municipal capital with the city of Puerto Padre, is working on the collection of some two million cigars and the training of human resources to increase production capacity in the last months of 2023.

The factory is working on the approval of the variety known as plumilla for the retail trade and is planning the construction of a tobacco house, which will enable them to link up with new economic actors to achieve the sale of a variety of products in the Creole style.
