Purified water is marketed at 0.20 cents a liter.

Two water purification plants provide service in the province of Las Tunas, as part of a program aimed at improving the quality of this liquid, and whose objective is to provide the population with a product with high levels of potability.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Alcides Naranjo Pérez, Maintenance Director of the Provincial Aqueduct and Sewerage Company, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the plants, manufactured in China, are located in the northern municipality of Manatí and in the provincial capital, and have the capacity to process approximately 10 liters per minute.

Among its main benefits is the elimination of pollutants, said the manager, and detailed that disinfection is carried out by the incidence of ultraviolet light from a lamp that is associated with it and that reduces the smell and taste of chlorine, so unpleasant for the population.

Naranjo Pérez assured that before the end of the current year, the residents of Puerto Padre will also benefit from a plant of this type. For this purpose, the process of installing and purchasing tanks is being worked on.

A similar project is being developed in Jobabo -he added-, where the planned infrastructure will be purifying and desalinating water, also with Chinese technology; but due to the complexity of the process, experts from the Asian country are expected to arrive in Cuba for its installation and entering into operation.

The water purification plants currently functioning in Las Tunas, a province among the most affected by the drought in the country, have a very good public acceptance due to the quality of the product, the stability of the service and the affordable price with which it is marketed at 0.20 cents a liter.
