13 water pumping stations powered by solar panels are currently out of operation.

Nine of the approximately 142 pumping stations installed in the province as part of the energy matrix change in the water supply to the population have been victims of theft.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- This was announced by authorities in the sector to the press, while emphasizing that in none of the cases have the criminals been found to date. Las Tunas is the Cuban territory with the highest incidence in this regard.

They said that the municipalities involved are Puerto Padre, with four incidents of this type; three in Colombia, and one each in Majibacoa and Jobabo.

Other problems also affect the proper functioning of these stations, including the severe drought we are experiencing, which has affected some of the wells that supply them.

Added to this are problems with the operation of the controllers and the lack of certain spare parts, which means that a total of 13 stations of this type are currently out of service.

Water sector managers acknowledge the limitations of this situation, such as the fact that many stations are located far from communities, in areas with little traffic, and with operators who work during the day but leave at night, leaving the sites unprotected.

They also insist that a budget is being approved to hire custodians from the districts themselves to look after the sites, and they called on the residents of the communities to protect the installed resources, because they are the direct beneficiaries of the program.
