PESCATUN aims to expand food options for families in Las Tunas.

Amidst a scenario of limitations and shortages, given the country's current economic crisis, workers at the Las Tunas Fishing Company (PESCATUN) are redoubling their efforts on various fronts to make their mark on the local diet.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Although their commitment is guaranteed, it is insufficient because the demand from the population is even greater. Hence, the importance of the work of those responsible for sailing the waters to catch fish, whether through the aquaculture program or in the open sea.

Adalberto Leyva Segura, director of Fishing Operations. The largest volumes of fish are commercialized through the fish market network. Products such as croquettes, sausages, hamburger patties, seasoned and natural minced meat, fillets, among other assortments, are produced, in addition to other commitments to economic organizations, especially during the summer season, said Adalberto Leyva Segura, director of Fishing Operations in this eastern territory.

PESCATUN is committed to combining traditional methods with scientific advances, as validated last June at a provincial forum featuring research directly related to production processes.

We have three fish hatcheries, where we have produced 8.9 million fries so far this year, out of the planned four million. But the challenge lies in reaching 15 million as fish and, together with other groups, contributing the 21.3 million that cover the province's 6,800 hectares of aquifers, Leyva Segura said exclusively to the Cuban News Agency.

The fish is processed and offered to the population in the form of fillets, croquettes, sausages... However, the entity is swimming against the tide due to the daily problems on the island these days. Hence, the demands are moving towards higher levels of efficiency in the various PESCATUN aims to expand food options for families in Las Tunas. tasks.

According to Leyva Segura, the main difficulty lies in the production of ice, which is very detrimental because it means stopping brigades and limiting catches, as the reservoirs have low water levels, and this leads to higher volumes of fish. In addition, temperatures are high, so much more refrigeration is required to preserve this precious food.

Although obstacles will continue to arise, and new ones will emerge, with the actions of its men and women, from the industry or on the boats, with nets in their hands, PESCATUN aims to expand food options for families in Las Tunas.
