The Las Tunas Provincial Transportation Company has made all its resources available to the municipal Defense Councils to assist with recovery efforts after the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Before, this agency contributed to the movement of personnel and resources in anticipation of the meteorological event's impact.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– Reynaldo Reyes Silva, the provincial delegate, told 26 that "The transportation subgroup has confirmed that, overall, we are not experiencing difficulties with the transport system, although the roofs of the municipal Basic Business Units (UEBs) in Puerto Padre and Jesús Menéndez suffered some damage. So far, no other significant incidents have been reported in the rest of the province.
One of the essential services that remains operational is the transportation of patients requiring life-saving treatments such as hemodialysis. We are working in coordination with the Taxi Agency to ensure their mobility."
Regarding intermunicipal and provincial transportation, Reyes Silva clarified that its full restoration is contingent upon the decision of the National Defense Council, which also considers the resumption of long-distance routes. The overall transportation situation in the province is currently undergoing reorganization and is awaiting a change in the weather pattern to allow for the complete normalization of service.
