More than 8,000 evacuated people in Las Tunas

Until noon this Sunday, in the province of Las Tunas, 8,310 people living in vulnerable areas that could be affected during the passage of Tropical Storm Elsa remain evacuated.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to Lieutenant Governor Yelenis Tornet Menéndez, of that total, 252 remain in 12 protection centers - with guaranteed food and health care, especially children and the elderly -, and 8,058 are in the homes of relatives and friends.

In all cases, compliance with the sanitary measures directed by the epidemiological authorities required to prevent infections with the COVID-19 has been indicated, especially the use of the facemask and physical distancing.

Most of the evacuees live in the southern municipalities; those most at risk of flooding due to heavy rains, penetrations of the sea, and river flooding. The inhabitants of the coastal settlement of Guayabal, in "Amancio"; and those of the Zabalo area, in Jobabo, stand out. The same protection was given to the inhabitants of Nigua, in Majibacoa, and of communities in the southern area of the municipality of Las Tunas.

At the same time that residents in the most vulnerable areas are protected, medical care in different places in the eight municipalities is guaranteed with health brigades that can take on any emergency that arises naturally or due to Elsa's onslaught.
