Actions aimed at protecting the harvest of various crops, infrastructure, livestock, resources, and products have been developed by the Agriculture System in this province, in the face of the possible danger of the passage of "Elsa" through this eastern region.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- During the first hours of the day, executives in Las Tunas informed the Economic and Social Group of the fulfillment of the main measures adopted to minimize the effects.

According to the activities carried out, more than 1,759 tons of food have already been evacuated and another 1,731 protected. Likewise, about 197 thousand 446 kilograms of rice, 532 thousand 212 of beans, 19 thousand 972 of peas, 93 thousand 22 of refined sugar, one million of raw sugar, and more than 96 thousand 958.25 liters of oil have been covered with blankets in warehouses.

"These products - the manager said- have been sold to the people in correspondence with the possibilities, although the prioritized sectors, isolation centers, and centers for the care of patients infected with COVID-19 were the most benefited."

Martínez Vargas said that intense work has already been done to secure the windmills and they have dismantled all the rustic and traditional houses dedicated to the production of protected crops. Other tasks are dedicated to the protection of charcoal to prevent it from losing quality and then unable to be exported, besides trying to safeguard rice, both in harvest and in warehouses.

“Care has also been reinforced for the Logistics Business Group of the Ministry of Agriculture here in workshops in which there are some inputs typical of agriculture and others belonging to the reserve that must be protected and conserved against the threat of Tropical Storm Elsa. We also insist on the protection of all the infrastructure of the sector to minimize the possible damages”, the delegate pointed out.
