Agricultural Workers' Day in Las Tunas

Despite the difficult epidemiological situation and the associated complex context, the farmers of Las Tunas, on the eve of celebrating their National Day, reaffirmed the commitment not to abandon their development plans and advance in their main task: to produce food for the people.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The provincial act, held at the premises of the companies that make up the Logistics Business Group of the Ministry of Agriculture (GELMA), was chaired by Manuel Pérez Gallego, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the province; Jaime Chiang Vega, governor; Leobanys Ávila Góngora, secretary-general of the Central Union of Cuban Workers; and had the participation of several directors of companies and outstanding workers of the agricultural system.

Agricultural Workers' Day in Las TunasThe delegate of this sector in the territory, Yoel Martínez Vargas, referred to the main achievements obtained during the year, mainly related to the products of the state commission. He also updated the current situation of the investments that are carried out and enunciated the measures that are being implemented to stimulate food production.

Martínez Vargas highlighted the progress of the various crops campaign and the projections, mainly for the last months of the year. Likewise, he emphasized the contribution of companies and units of different products, inputs, and agricultural lines, for supplying health institutions and numerous isolation centers enabled during the pandemic.

At the meeting, they honored exemplary workers and decorated those who have been dedicated to Agriculture for 20, 25, and 50 years. Companies such as Beekeeping, GELMA, Seeds, Information Technology and Communications, Agricultural Projects, Agroindustrial Grains, Tobacco, LABIOFAM among others, were recognized.

Agricultural Workers' Day in Las TunasThe secretariat of the Young Communists League praised the progress of the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture; while the National Agricultural Projects Company (ENPA) was awarded in the movement For the Path of Victory, and the Poultry Company won the applause in the category For the Route of the Million.

During the event, they also stimulated two of the entrepreneurs of the new type markets in the provincial capital, Argel Frank Fundora Acosta and Duniezki Guerrero de la Cruz, in charge of Mercasa and Leningrado, respectively, who were recognized for their unconditional contribution to food production.

Carlos Antonio Cruz Pagán, the secretary-general of the National Union of Agricultural, Forestry and Tobacco Workers in Las Tunas, delivered central words of the celebration and stressed the commitment of these trade unionists to continue producing more and more for the people; and reaffirmed that “before the current context, the farmers of Las Tunas have sufficient potential to turn challenges into opportunities and setbacks into victory, as our revolutionary leaders have taught us,” he concluded.
