Outstanding health workers awarded in Las Tunas

The admirable performance of more than 20 Public Health workers during the confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic, inside and outside of Cuba, was recognized with the delivery of several decorations approved by the State Council, based on the proposals of the Cuban Workers' Central Union (CTC) and the Union of the sector.

Wilkenis Tamayo Ruiz, the secretary-general of the Provincial Committee of the National Health Workers Union (SNTS, in Spanish) highlighted the work of these “soldiers of duty who leave every day at dawn, as members of the great army in white coats, accompanied by stethoscopes and sphygmomanometers as the only weapons in the fight for life.” They are who guarantee the right to health, he said.

At the event, which took place in the Major General Vicente García Revolution Plaza, the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, the greatest promoter of scientific development in Cuba that today makes possible the saving vaccines against COVID-19, was recalled.
The desire to make health a good for each citizen has been the essence of the Revolution, and these men and women dignify that humanist conception with their acts of solidarity.

“Amid this hostile context, Cubans establish us as a sovereign nation that will never allow interference in its internal affairs, and the workers of the sector will remain firm in the determination to accompany the Communist Party and the leadership of the Revolution. We ratify that we are the essence and conquest of the struggles for national emancipation,” Tamayo Ruiz assured.

With this activity, the day of tribute to health workers in Las Tunas began, which will run until January 15, the Cuban Science Day. During these weeks of celebration, similar events will be held in all the municipalities of the province.
