Some days, the sky fills with messages. This Tuesday was one of those days. In the Major General Vicente García González Revolution Plaza, Las Tunas children took the reins of the wind and adorned it with colorful kites as part of the activities commemorating the 65th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM), which will be celebrated on April 4th.
Under the motto “Raising Hope and Against the Blockade,” hundreds of boys and girls did what they do best: play, create, and draw. Without ceasing to be children, they made their presence felt on this day. When a pioneer flies a kite, they raise a symbol, a wish, a smile.

The Plaza became a map of drawings. On one hand, the aerial sport drew their gaze to the heights, to that sky that is conquered with love. There, in the natural space, awareness was sown about animal care and tenderness of loving nature.
But perhaps the most moving issue was in the hands; the drawings spoke for themselves. And in the end, “Together for Cuba” was the perfect summary of the experience, an exhibition of works celebrating centennials, anniversaries, the collective memory of a country that continues to invest in its children.
There is no more beautiful way to honor 65 years of an organization than with children taking flight in the very place where the history of Las Tunas has written so many important chapters.
Thus, with kites soaring in the sky above Las Tunas, the day was a declaration of principles made of paper, string, and a whole lot of heart, because when a nation lifts its childhood up, it is truly lifting its own horizons.
