Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe

Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe on Tuesday reiterated to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at a 90-minute meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia, its condemnation of foreign interference in Taiwan and stressed that it is the major "red line" in bilateral relations.

Beijing.- The minister stressed that Taiwan belongs to China and solving this issue is an internal matter and one of the main interests as a nation.

Fenghe considered the recent meeting between presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden as a guide for the development of Beijing-Washington relations while urging for a “rational and practical” policy towards China and also calling for rolling out a consensus of both dignitaries.

Moreover, Wei said that the Chinese Army values ties with the United States, but respect for its interests must prevail. (PL)
