Syrian delegate to the United Nations agencies in Geneva, Husam al-Din Alaa

The Syrian delegate to the United Nations agencies in Geneva, Husam al-Din Alaa, revealed that his country has successfully dismantled more than 180,000 landmines and explosive devices left over by terrorists.

Damascus.- The diplomat's statement, quoted by local media, came during his speech at the 20th meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines, held at the UN headquarters in Geneva.

He noted that to do the demining work rapidly and efficiently faces a shortage of financial and technical resources as a consequence of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and its allies, plus the political conditionality to provide those resources.

The diplomat charged that foreign occupation and the presence of terrorist groups in some Syrian regions block access and the demining work. (PL)
