Eddys Crespo Vargas and Raúl Verdecie Fernández, multi-award-winning professionals from TunasVisión, deserved the title of Artist of Merit of Cuban Television, news that was announced during the celebration of the National Telecenters Festival.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- "An award, even with the subjectivity that many associate with it, is always welcome; it is proof that we are doing our job well. This one, in particular, represents years of putting our heart and soul into every frame, from simple press coverage to the most complex productions. It also represents a commitment to those who came before us and were or are also deserving of this recognition, but above all to the people who inspire the stories we tell, to those protagonists," Verdecie told 26.
Raúl is a professional cameraman with over two decades of experience at the provincial channel, where he has spent most of his life. "My children were born here, as were the children of many friends who, over the years, have become family. I have experienced unforgettable moments, but without a doubt, nothing compares to receiving recognition from the people or watching the children we saw being born grow up.
"Each of the many documentaries made alongside sisters such as Waldina Almaguer, Anybis Labarta, and Niúver Rodríguez, or alongside that great journalist and brother, Gianny López Brito, in our land, Venezuela, during the internationalist mission there. Every moment is and will always be one of human and professional growth," added the man who has also received the Caracol Award from the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC in Spanish) for the photography of a documentary made with Niúver, as well as other awards related to that category at the Félix B. Caignet, Santa Mareare, and provincial and national television festivals.
For his part, Eddys confessed to us: "There are loves that come unexpectedly; that happened to me with television, although radio will always be my first love. I owe that to Rafaela Balanza, who motivated me to embrace the current medium. Although I approached it with a little fear, I found a home here that has welcomed all my creative madness, accompanied by many good and talented people.
"I'm not enthralled by any award, but the status of Artist of Merit of Cuban Television is special; it comforts me greatly. I dedicate this result to TunasVisión, which encourages my dreams because each job is a new creative adventure. I love all my programs equally; I put my heart into them as if they were my children. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to venture into various genres, although my work aimed at teenagers and young people has marked my career. I try to define myself by creativity, self-improvement, passion for my work, and the search for new ways of storytelling, always with humility and modesty."
Both this director and producer, who is also head of programming at TunasVisión, and Raúl, considered by several colleagues to be among the best in their field in the country, are dedicated, perfectionist, modest, and tireless men who richly deserve many distinctions. In addition, as a result of their work, they are members of UNEAC, the artistic vanguard of this country, bringing their knowledge and exquisite art to different spaces.
