Youth Computing and Electronics Club, 35 years in favor of development

The Youth Club of Computing and Electronics was founded on September 8, 35 years ago, at the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- It was a time when technological challenges were growing and Cuba was entering a stage of profound transformations in this regard. Since then much has changed, but the so-called Family Computer is still there, creating and accompanying our society.

Ada Alicia Duarte Ávila, a general specialist in Computer Science.Ada Alicia Duarte Ávila, a general specialist in Computer Science, has consecrated the last 20 years to this institution. "I started in the Youth Club when I was part of a program of the Revolution; I worked as a methodologist and took care of the teaching processes. We developed a lot of work in that area; hence the experience that I have accumulated. Thanks to this profession, I obtained a master's degree in Computer Science and integrated the National Methodological Advisory Group."

In 1987, there were few computers in Cuba, and citizens needed to learn how to use them because the progress of the nation also depended on them; but the reality is not the same right now.

For this reason, Duarte Ávila points out, they have had to broaden the range since it is no longer an entity dedicated only to the teaching of Computing. Today, even more than 50 services are provided, Robotics courses are taught, and natural and legal persons are advised in the management of electronic systems. This opening has ensured the permanence of the institution in the dynamics of our society.

She also reflected on the imperatives for the Youth Club shortly, especially in technological matters because, as is known, they do not have all the resources they want. The desire of contributing keeps its staff in constant movement and for this reason, they can be seen almost anywhere, not just in their facilities.

The instructors encourage children and young people to study technologies and it could be said that a great part of the development in branches such as Computer Science, Automation, and Electronics has had its roots in the Computing and Electronics Youth Club.

“The Family Computer” has come a long way for seven lustrums; full of setbacks, but with the same clear objective of promoting computerization as a basis for development in all areas.
