Las Tunas celebrates the Day of the Agricultural Worker

Consolidating the technical-productive processes, in line with the needs of the country, is the goal of agricultural workers in the province of Las Tunas, so that monitoring, control, and support for producers are prioritized.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the political ceremony for the Day of the Agricultural Worker, this October 3, the collective commitment to make better use of existing resources to gradually increase food production was reaffirmed; the event was attended by representatives of all the entities of the sector, as well as the member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the province, Manuel Pérez Gallego, and the governor Jaime Chiang Vega.

At the Grain Processing, Drying, and Packaging Plant, the venue of the meeting, it was pointed out that the province successfully completed the spring planting campaign, although some lines such as sweet potatoes and corn did not exceed the planned amounts.

Regarding the prioritized programs, they reported that it is necessary to continue increasing cassava plantations and improve those of plantain and sweet potatoes; besides finishing rescuing livestock to increase the collection of milk and the delivery of meat to the industry.

During the celebration, the National Union of Agricultural, Forestry, and Tobacco Workers awarded the Marcos Martí Distinction to those who have worked uninterruptedly in this sector for 25 years and recognized fifty-year workers and outstanding young people.

Due to its management in different programs, diplomas were awarded to the Swine and Agroindustrial Grain companies and the base business units of Seeds and Dismantling and Construction, and EIMA (Computer Science Company of the Ministry of Agriculture). “Amancio” was selected as an integral municipality.
