La Herradura 1 wind farm, on the northern coast of Las Tunas

The civil construction of the La Herradura 1 wind farm, on the northern coast of Las Tunas, reached 2024 with significant progress, thanks to the systematic work of the province's Construction and Assembly Company.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Since the work of clearing the land began to create roads in the northern municipality of Jesús Menéndez, work has not stopped at the electrical substation and the maintenance center.

Only one push, essential for its operation, is required to get the wind farm ready, which is designed for a power of 51 megawatts, the largest capacity in Cuba to date.

The 22 wind turbines that the park has, of Chinese origin, are well protected in this part of the geography of Las Tunas, but interconnections are needed for their assembly, said Carlos Arias Sobrino, director of the Electric Company in this eastern territory.

In the coastal enclave, the La Herradura 2 eolic park -with similar power generation capacity- is also planned, which began to be built, but is paralyzed due to lack of financing.

Another park is conceived to be built in the municipality of Manatí; this one, with foreign investment.
