The sugar workers face many obstacles due to the lack of resources

The sugar harvest has not been able to take, in Las Tunas, the leap that the economy needs, and is moving slowly in the two industries –“Antonio Guiteras” and “Majibacoa”- that assume the highest production assigned to a Cuban province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Neither the men and women, nor the mills, nor the fields escape the impact of the current financial and energy situation of the nation. However, the managers and workers of the sector do not give up the goal, amounting to more than 61,500 tons of sugar, destined, mainly, to meet the demands of the regulated family basket, social consumption, mixed companies, and other prioritized sectors.

However, many of the problems transcend the intentions and efforts of the labor groups. One of them is the low availability of fuel, essential to guarantee the supply of cane to the industry; paralysis of work in reception and cleaning centers due to blackouts, shortage of lubricants for the industrial and agricultural machinery...

Other objective difficulties threaten the progress of the campaign. The “Guiteras Colossus,” for example, faces the damage to the water pumps that feed the boilers, and obstructions in the Salado River, which connects the sea with the dam from which the water they use in factory operations is extracted.

However, subjective issues are also addressed as a priority. Thus, staff training has been intensified to correct operational problems associated with technological and labor indiscipline that comprehensively impact efficiency.

Both, industry and agriculture have improved their actions, which become strength to compensate for losses. The agreed production plan is not renounced but to materialize it depends a lot on the required assurances to maintain stable milling rates.
