The president of the Provincial Defense Council, Manuel René Pérez Gallego, valued the Meteoro 2023 people’s exercise as very positive, which has allowed the territory to define the current vulnerabilities in certain places in Las Tunas, to face the risks of natural disasters. 

Las Tunas, Cuba.- “The exercise has allowed us to prepare the management and command bodies in the plans against disasters, and although we have had some experience in the face of risks, the actions showed new events and, above all, weaknesses in the conception of different measures that must be immediately perfected."

He said that Meteoro 2023 demonstrated how the defense councils in each municipality should act, taking into account that the risks and exceptional situations can change from one year to the next.

He praised the exercise that was carried out at the CUPET fuel trading company, on the outskirts of the city of Las Tunas, and assured that during its development, the members of the Provincial Defense Council thought about how to improve the performance of defense zones to preserve human lives from the beginning of a possible accident, and also maintain traffic between the east and west of the country, when the first thing to do is to close the section of the Central Highway in the surroundings of that entity.

"The maneuver has been successful throughout the province; the eight defense councils have participated, and it has allowed all of us to acquire more knowledge and preparation, and with the participation of the population we are in better conditions to face any disaster," he assured.

Meteoro 2023 ended at the Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital, where the device for the mass reception of wounded people was set up, with all the requirements for the development of an action like this, based on the preparation of doctors, nurses, paramedics and members of the Red Cross.

The actions on Sunday also focused on the collection of solid waste, cleaning of ditches and canals, elimination of micro-dumps, and the securing of roofs, among other tasks aimed at avoiding the loss of human life and damage to the economy.
