Monte Cabaniguán protected area, in Jobabo

That the natural values of ecological reserves such as Monte Cabaniguán, in the municipality of Jobabo, become attractive for national and foreign clients is today among the maximum tourist projections of the province of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The area, located in the south of the territory, stands out for its practically unaltered mangrove ecosystem, which is home to the best local population of the American crocodile in wildlife; a treasure that attracted attention in the recent first edition of the Eastern Cuban Tourist Exchange, developed virtually with the presence of tour operators, specialists, and companies in the sector.

Although the wealth of Cabaniguán does not stop there since it also inhabits species of fauna such as the Cuban iguana, colonies of aquatic birds, Fernandina's flicker, several families of migratory birds; and the flora exhibits a savanna with palms with a large representation of species of the Copernicia genus.

A statement from the Las Tunas Citizen Portal made it clear that the opening of Monte Cabaniguán to nature tourism will create the infrastructure in the Zabalo and Palo Seco areas to offer other services to generate income to the municipality; mainly, through the exploitation of its potential in the sale of handicraft articles. Meanwhile, there are plans to extend it to the Monte and Sabana routes and the historical sites.

Giarlis Melenilla Romero, Tourism delegate in Las Tunas, pointed out to the Cuban News Agency that all the potential of the province is currently being evaluated to promote and extend ecotourism as an important product that is committed to agroecology and the culture.

In this sense, a large group of leaders and specialists carry out tours to identify those natural areas that could be inserted in these projects.

Such is the case of the demarcation where the Popular Council 17 operates, at the entrance to the El Cornito farm - in the provincial capital-; where the house of Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo (El Cucalambé), the main popular poet of the 19th century in Cuba, is located.

The Majagual farm and the Octavo Congreso del Partido Ecotourism Agroproductive Complex (Eighth Congress of the Party) are also among the objectives of the Las Tunas program to generalize attractive ecotourism proposals.

Beyond natural values, in the Eastern Cuban Tourist Exchange held last May, the history and recipe of the Las Tunas’ soup caused a great impact; a culinary value that the local Tourism Delegation presented and promoted as a bulwark of the culture of the inhabitants of a city that will soon reach 225 years since its foundation.
