The implementation of the National Program for Women’s Advancement develops in Las Tunas with profound transformations

Achieving fairer and more equitable scenarios that foster the personal growth of women and the performance of more leading roles in the country's development is currently one of the greatest challenges faced by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in Las Tunas.

The implementation of the National Program for Women’s Advancement develops in the territory, with profound transformations in favor of female empowerment, and expands its scope in both urban and rural areas with a view to more inclusive spaces.

Yamilet Ortega Figuerola, secretary-general of the FMC, commented to the press that this program has seven areas of work in which equal rights and opportunities for women are monitored: economic empowerment, access to decision-making, education and social prevention, legislation, law, and protection systems against all forms of discrimination and violence; as well as communication, sexual and reproductive health, and statistics and research.

She emphasized that in current times of great economic tensions, it is important to promote the direct link of the feminine universe with the productive processes, as well as to distinguish those who occupy management positions, and those directly linked to food production.

She explained that the program on Las Tunas is specially designed to address vulnerabilities, housewives, and those socially disengaged, to know their expectations and needs, and to promote spaces for their insertion.

Ortega Figuerola stated that this policy focuses its attention on the current challenges and intends, as the main objective, to continue promoting the advancement of Cuban women amid all economic transformations that are taking place, and its purpose is that there are no setbacks in its execution.

The National Program for the Advancement of Women promotes more comprehensive and effective actions for the prevention and elimination of manifestations of discrimination and violence, materialized in strategic measures and objectives focused on these development priorities. It also constitutes the agenda of the Cuban State to promote female progress on the Island.
