Charcoal is the AGROINT Las Tunas leading product for export.

With the consolidation of charcoal as a leading item in the international market, and the identification of three other agricultural products, the Integral Agricultural Company (AGROINT) Las Tunas is getting ready to become the leading agricultural entity in foreign trade in this province.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Alberto González Hernández, the director general of AGROINT, explained exclusively to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that although they began to venture into this modality in 2017, now is the time to start with more professionalism, especially in terms of the finished product.

In this sense, the projections are to select top-quality charcoal for retail sale in the countries where it is exported in three, five, and ten-kilogram formats; as well as the rest of the product would be processed in the form of briquettes also for this end, he pointed out.

González Hernández also declared that the entity is working promptly to incorporate agricultural products, such as the medlar, the Havana chili pepper or hot pepper, and the Persian lemon; others must be included later like chunky banana, and other fruits and vegetables.

The process is complex due to the characteristics of the international market but AGROINT Las Tunas has already identified the leading producers that will join this activity -he added-, and is working on the training of specialists with the advice of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, a task that goes from the conception of the brands to the acquisition of potential clients.

In the next few days, we must begin to export the first goods; an operation that is expected to be carried out by the Calixto García airport in Holguín, to guarantee the speed and correct handling of fresh products from the land such as those we want to market, stressed the manager.

Similarly, the Company is committed to materializing, by 2023, a joint project with the University of Las Tunas for obtaining dehydrated fruits and vegetables, which would allow the use of significant volumes of products that find no way out at harvest peaks in the small and large industries, due to objective deficiencies such as the lack of sugar.

AGROINT Las Tunas intends, before the end of the year, to obtain the powers to carry out foreign trade directly; meanwhile, it will assume the mission through eight exporting companies that are currently authorized to operate in Cuba.
