Today, popular referendum on new Family Code

The 1,266 polling stations established in the 668 constituencies of Las Tunas province are ready to host today the popular referendum on the Family Code.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The population has been called to vote freely on a law that, according to experts, would become, if approved by the majority, one of the most advanced of its kind in the world.

Las Tunas has five special schools; two of them at the Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital, one at the Mártires de Las Tunas Pediatric Hospital, another at the Guillermo Domínguez Hospital (Puerto Padre), and the other one at the Provincial Railway Terminal.

The electoral authorities confirmed that travelers who are in the National Bus Terminal can exercise their right in the electoral colleges located at the Vado del Yeso and El Vaquerito semi-boarding schools, near the facility. They also explained that 63 family homes will function as polling stations, 18 of which belong to the provincial capital.

Likewise, they have insisted that each polling station has a tabloid with the Code available to voters, in case they need to consult something before cast their vote.

The scrutiny will be public, as traditional in the Cuban democratic system, although only the five members of the electoral table can count the ballots.
